Culture on Bali.
Bali’s population are mainly Hindu and very religious. Apart from the big temples that are spread out over Bali, almost every building or object has its own temple or small temples, which also goes for most villas and resorts on Bali.
Every day, people pray at the temples or small temples and small gifts are made, e.g. small bowls of food decorated with flowers and incense.
Ceremonies are a regular occurrence on Bali. You will without a doubt experience this when you are travelling through Bali or during daytrips, for example because the road has suddenly been set off due to a local ceremony.
The most popular ceremony by far on Bali takes place once a year (NYEPI). Please bear this in mind when planning or booking your (return) flights as Bali’s public life then comes to a total standstill. Even Bali’s international airport is closed.
Dates of NYEPI for the coming years:
2023 : 22 march / 2024 : 11 march
